| The Black Mare (true story)It had been a spring without joy. I had been waiting what seemed like an eternity for the terrible sickness in my heart to heal itself but it was clear that was not going to happen anytime soon. A grey haired man approached and greeted my sister. “You have brought your brother to see some of our Walking Horses then?” he said. We walked through the breezeway the length of the barn and out the back door to a corral at the rear. “I’ll go get some tact so you can try them”, the man offered.In the corral were a dozen beautiful young walking horses, but the one who caught my eye was a young jet black mare with prefect conformation and deep brown eyes that seemed to latch onto me. Somehow I had the feeling that she had looked into my soul and decided she liked what she saw. My sister favored a big chestnut gelding, but she could see that I was in love already. So by the time her friend returned carrying two saddles, we had already picked out our mounts. We swung into the saddle and headed for a small wooded area behind the barns. I had sensed that the mare was in season, though she had made no overt sign at the corral. But now, with me on her back I could feel the electricity. Without thinking, I squeezed her with my legs and she suddenly stopped dead in her tracks and assumed the sawhorse position! I felt drunk with joy! The rest of the ride was a blur, but every time we stopped she would repeat her offer. How could she have spoken to me more clearly? At the barn I decided to tie her outside while I got her stall ready. There was a shaded area just downhill of the barn and a perfect tree. But once I had tied her loosely to the tree I could not pull myself away from her.I stroked her face and graceful neck and looked into her eyes. With nothing more she stretched into an exaggerated sawhorse position and threw her tail high into the air. I could hear a stream of urine splash onto the ground. My heart pounded uncontrollably and I bent over her withers and bit gently into the base of her mane, grunting with lust. It was then that she made the softest purring sound I had ever heard from a horse. I have since learned that she reserves this purr for the sole purpose of asking to be mated.Sliding my hand down her gleaming back I got to her rump and saw her vulva was full and swollen.
