I had just been accepted into one of the most highly accredited colleges in the area, and I was going to be doing something there that I had dreamed of since childhood - working with horses.I jogged - almost skipped - the last few steps to my car, opening the door and humming to myself. I got in and looked through the papers I had received from the admissions staff. Maps of the campus, a course schedule, book lists, financial aid applications... and a map to the University's 350 acre equine complex. With a smile I stashed the map in the glove compartment of my car and drove to the dorm."Hmm.. let's see... what dorm room am I in again?" I tried to remember, holding the corner of the stack of papers I had just received over my mouth, "Ah yes, room 4B, Irving hall." I walked down the neandering concrete path that led to the door of the first dorm building and walked inside. "Let's see... 3A.. 3B.. 3C... 4A... Ah, here we are, 4B." There are also four seperate large indoor riding arenas where students can perfect their riding skills any time day or night. The breeding barn is home to several stallions ridden in multiple disciplines that are at stud, some of which have won prizes competing at the national and world levels. There are 35 beautiful pastures scattered throughout the farm where horses can be turned out to graze" I read to myself."Sounds like a wonderful place" I said, grinning ear to ear as I started the car and pulled out of the parking lot. Within minutes I was there. I stopped just in front of the main gates and swiped my student ID card at the little console that controlled the gates. As I entered the complex it was like entering a whole new world. I looked to my right and I could see five or six horses running through a pasture in the distance. I pulled into the parking lot and looked around. I saw a sign with an arrow pointing in the direction of the main barn, and started walking. I could feel my heart beating faster as I approached the barn."Okay, I gotta stay calm.. breathe, Darren, breathe" I said to myself. When I entered the barn, I looked down the aisle and saw several horses sticking their heads out of their stalls, some nickering to greet me, and saw other students grooming horses and others cleaning stalls. I walked down the aisle and noticed that all of the stalls had cards on them with two names, the horse's name and a student's name.I kept walking and stopped about half way down the aisle noticing a tall appaloosa mare who was hanging her head out of the stall. I looked at the card on the stall. "Ruby." When I read the second line my heart fluttered. "Darren Michael.""Hey there girl.." I whispered, holding my hand up to her nose. She nickered at me and I got closer to her, petting her nose and patting her on the neck. "Gosh you're a pretty girl" I whispered to her, absolutely in awe of how beautiful she was. "So you're the horse I have the honor of taking care of this semester, eh?" I said, scratching behind her ear. She arched her neck, pushing her head up into my hand, then snorted and stepped back into her stall.I instantly fell in love. "I wonder why nobody's introduced themselves to me yet. Hmm. I don't know......tell me, who is being hurt if you have fantasies about a horse?...nobody......so then there's no problem.. nobody's being hurt, and it's just a harmless fantasy.. even if you decide to take it further, you're not doing anything wrong... just giving and receiving pleasure.. that's all there is to it.When I got back to my dorm I continued to turn it over in my mind.
