okay people remember this is my first story. Inside a reflection of light caught my eye I looked closer and saw a thin tiny flea infested puppy staring back up at me. I was disgusted but after a small whimper I gave in and looked at it. I then looked at the animal’s surroundings and saw three other puppies all laying lifeless looking at the roof of their accommodation a small green shoebox.When I could take my eyes away from the puppy I showed the receptionist what was in the box. She then began laughing at me again.She coldly stared into my eyes and asked me “do you think I am stupid.”I then remained quiet so as not to inflame the situation further.It then hit me like a tonne of bricks.She opened her mouth and began trying to explain.“Look sir, I have worked here for over ten years and based on my experience I am telling you this animal will not survive.”“What do you mean.” I managed to choke.“This animal might as well be dead it is riddled with flees…”I had managed to make eye contact with this dog yet again. Her voice just dragged on and on all I heard was,“We do not have the resources or money to look after this dog and it is very unlikely we will find it a home.” I then looked into those eyes again and before she could rattle anything else out of her mouth I said “I will take it.”She began laughing again this time with nothing but pure sarcasm but I heard nothing she said except “how will you pay for it?” “I will manage.”I then picked the thing up and placed it under my jacket. I could feel its heart beating against my chest. I once again felt needed I could smell it okay it wasn’t nice it smelled of old stale urine and faeces but to me it smelt beautiful. I got into my car and drove to the nearest veterinary surgery. I placed it on the desk and said “I want it treated.” After giving me a really dirty look I was asked “what is wrong with it” I replied “I don’t know.”The vet took the dog to the back and told me they would do what they could. I handed them two hundred pounds and said I would be back in a week. And walked out without looking back. The week went by so slowly that I remember feeling nothing but sorrow and guilt. I remember telling myself how cruel I was for wasting the money that I could have spent on a healthy dog on this I felt so idiotic.The week finally ended and I returned I was told that my puppy had had been very close to death and after paying them the outstanding money I owed and thanking them I left. Before I had I was told it was a female German Shepherd. This meant nothing to me and I jumped in my car and continued home. The animal I had previously taken I urine drenched and stinking of death was now looking even more beautiful than ever. She no longer smelled.
